Maine in the War of 1812

Trading, Smuggling, Privateering & British Assaults in summer 1814

Gordon Smith and Arthur L. Carter's ggg grandfather James Carter, arrived in Eastport in 1786 and was involved in the first distribution of Land in Eastport ( Lot 22 consisting of 52 Acres). We think that he moved his family to Dennysville/Pembroke in the spring of 1811. His Daugher married a veteran of the 1812 War, William H Smith.  There is a reference to James Carter also being in the war of 1812 but no official records as Yet.
